Elvis Presley imitator Mark Anthony will be shaking his pelvis like the King himself when he takes to the Ulmer Chev Stage at the Vic Juba Community Theatre in Lloydminster.
The Australian Elvis impersonator will perform his ‘If I Can Dream’ act, while on tour the evening of Sept. 27.
Anthony is fresh from finishing second in the world, representing Nashville at the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Competition in Memphis roughly two weeks ago.
“He had a pretty good chance at first; he was fighting a sinus infection,” said his Canadian booking agent, Elaine Martelli with The Canadian Bluemoon Ventures in Kelowna, B.C.
She rates Anthony, who is currently in Australia, as one of the top five Elvis impersonators in the world.
What Anthony does is perform a tribute to Elvis and plays all of the hits by the King of Rock and Roll from the 50s, right up to when he died in 1977.
“He wears the jumpsuits because that’s what people want, but he says there is only one Elvis,” said Martelli noting Anthony doesn’t adopt Presley’s persona 24/7.
“To see him just on the street, no, he doesn’t look like Elvis, but when he’s on stage, he does have that look; when he sings, he’s very close to Elvis,” she said.
Martelli said the Lloydminster audience can expect a terrific show like the one Anthony performed the past two summers during the Penticton Elvis Festival and during a B.C. tour she booked last year that is similar to the ‘If I Can Dream tour.’
“He’s got three separate shows that he promotes a lot, this being one of them; everybody just loved it,” added Martelli.
Bringing the music to this fabulous show is the extraordinary band, the Cadillac Kings and the Uptown Hornz.
Anthony is endorsed by Elvis Presley Enterprises and Graceland USA.
The Australian began to professionally portray Elvis in 2004 and got his big performance break when he was named South Pacific Ultimate Elvis Grand Champion in 2007.
He won this title again in 2008, and placed in the top 10 in the world, performing in the finals of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Competition, presented by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
He has won numerous other Elvis impersonator tribute titles since that time, prompting Martelli to conclude, “he is one of the good ones.”
