Construction is slated to begin within days on the Lloydminster Casino near the southeast corner of 40 Ave. and Highway 16.
The green light follows an agreement reached on May 11 in Lloydminster, between the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) that will operate the casino, and developer, Border Tribal Council for a long-term casino lease.
The estimated $20 million construction cost will create a 30,000 sq. ft. casino with about 250 slots and eight table games.
The lease was announced by chiefs Reginald Bellerose, chairperson of SIGA, and Wayne Semaganis, chief of Little Pine First Nation.
“On behalf of SIGA, we’re pleased to be working with the Border Tribal Council to bring this new casino to Lloydminster,” said Bellerose.
“This new member of the SIGA casino family will provide much-needed employment and funding to the First Nations Trust, which will benefit all First Nations in the province.”
The two chiefs are also working in partnership with eight other First Nations in Northwestern Saskatchewan to construct a new mall, designed to house additional entertainment, recreation and retail facilities.
The first phase casino project will include a gas bar and convenience store that has been under construction since last fall, with Little Pine Business Developments Inc. as a development partner.
The master plan unveiled last fall in Lloydminster included a 120 room hotel to be built, with Border Tribal Council as the development partner.
