Over the past three seasons, the Grade 12 Holy Rosary Raiders football players have been part of a special team, one that doesn’t know what losing really feels like.
That’s because, over the last three seasons, Holy Rosary has only lost a single game, including pre-season, Wheatland Football League regular season and playoffs, plus provincial playoff games, with last year’s Alberta Bowl final as the only blemish.
“I’m kind of excited, but I’m pretty sad because this is the last high school football game I’ll ever play in,” said Raiders ‘offensive lineman, Ian Nelson about this Saturday’s Alberta Bowl final being his last game.
“It’s pretty great. I was really looking to go without a loss in all three high school years. I’m going to miss being on a team with such great people.”
While it’s hard to walk away from a team that has accomplished so much, quarterback Tommy Yanchuk looks back at the coaching and athletes that Holy Rosary has been able to develop, and the group of brothers on the field that he will forever be connected to.
“It’s just been seeing your buds every day for four hours,” said Yanchuk. “All the memories and laughs and dumb things you can share and stories of the weekends with the fellas, that’s what I’m going to miss the most.”
